Marta Bernstein // graphic and type designer // Milano
You can watch an interview filmed as part of the SFU Italian Design 2014 project.
I graduated (BA and MA) in 2006 at the Politecnico of Milan with a research thesis about Nineteenth century Italian type. In 2008 I was selected to be one of the students of the Type and Media Master (MDES), the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague (NL), where I graduated in June 2009.
Work & Type
In 2006 I started LS graphic design in Milan, where I still work now.
I collaborated with some publications in the area of type and I am one of the editors of «Italic 2.0 Contemporary Type Design in Italy».
I am into calligraphy, letterprinting and stone carving.
I currently teach at SPD Scuola Politecnica di Design (courses in English), Typography and Editorial Design and at CFP Riccardo Bauer, Milan, type design.
I am adjunct professor with a course in Typography at Politecnico University, Milan.
I taught at IED Milano (courses in English) and have been teaching assistant at the Politecnico University several times for the Type Design course.
Since Summer 2013 I have been part of the project Incipit, a new Milan-based creative lab and business. The company's aim is to help talented young designers bring their ideas to life. Incipit's official kickoff will take place during Milan Design Week 2014 (8-13 April) in the Ventura Lambrate district. More on our facebook, twitter, G+ and Instagram.
I am much into photography and since recently I am learning again to shoot analogue films with my beloved L-CA+ and Voigtländer Vito B.
I love to sail and I have been teaching sailing since 2001 at Velamareclub, Sardinia. If I'm not in front of the computer, I'm likely either to be climbing somewhere in Northern Italy or cooking, as a perfect Italian girl stereotype.
